5 Questions with…Marikit by Kitty Choy

Recently we sat down with one of our favorite designers. We have shared her stuff with you in the past but thought you might like to get to know her a bit better and see more of her work.

What made you first start designing and making your knits?

It all started approx. 3 years ago – paying for my wedding was killing me so I was trying to save left, right and centre. I haven’t been knitting for ages and started knitting mohair blankets for my entire bridal party. I ended up knitting around 8 blankets as thank you gifts. They were so amazed and grateful that they suggested I try selling. I decided to pick my 10 year old needles back up and started creating my one of a kind knits

Where do you get your inspiration/ favorite designer?

I totally love Isabel Marant and anything that’s colorful! One of my close friends – Zoe Irvine from The Naked Tiger is another inspiration. My style is very casual/denim/bohemian when I’m outside my 50hr working week as an Executive Assistant

What is your favorite piece?

I love ALL my Marikit babies!! And I hate parting with every piece I finish, but my favorite has to be the red shaggy and my muscle tee. The colours are just amazing and you will definitely be a talking point when you wear either piece.

If you could design/make a knit to anyone (famous, dead, fictional etc) who would it be, what would it look like and why?

Oh god – that’s a scary question to answer and haven’t really thought about it…I just j’adore Nicole Ritchie so would totally love to make her something. It would totally be another red shaggy..it’ll suit her carefree ‘I-don’t-give-a-crap-but-know-I’m-totally-looking-lush’ attitude

Where can we find you/your work?

You can can find me on Facebook, Marikit by Kitty Choy,  and at various vintage markets around Sydney. Keep an eye out on my Facebook page for my next whereabouts.

Contact me via FB or email marikit_kitty@hotmail.com for enquiries.

Clarins…Another Miracle

Oh Clarins, you have done it again, this time with an amazing hand cream.

Now that I am not in my 20’s anymore I have become increasingly aware of wrinkles and fine lines. I think I have enough products to cover my face but now I have a little miracle to cover my hands as well. It is so true when people say that you can tell someones age by their neck and their hands. Well when I’m 50 I want the hands of a 20 something year old. I think I have found the product to allow me to do just that…Clarins Age Control Hand Lotion.

The new Age Control Hand Lotion locks in moisture and heals dry patchy skin, as an added bonus it also strengthens nails. What I love about this hand cream beside the fact that its age control is that it contains UVA and UVB filters and an SPF 15.

I have had this cream in handbag for a solid week now and I am already noticing a difference in the dryness around my knuckles. I absolutely love it!!

We Can All Be A Killer Queen

Katy Perry says that we can all be Killer Queens and I believe her. I would believe anything Katy Perry says because I absolutely love her!

I was so excited when we were sent Katy Perry new fragrance Killer Queen, I hoped that I would love it…and I do! I adore it so much that it is now in my top fragrances that I have on high rotation. I am not usually one for celebrity fragrances but this.. I LOVE!

Katy Perry said that she really wanted to inspire women and bring out the power inside on them, creating the perfume around strong and confident woman. I don’t know how she did it but I actually smell that when I spray Killer Queen. It is such a beautiful fragrance that once settled into your skin creates a musky floral aroma.

Killer Queen top notes are wild berry, dark plum and bergmot. Middle notes; red velvet flower, natural jasmine sambac and rainbow plumeria. Base notes; cashmeran, natural patchouli and liquid praline.

The design of the bottle is inspired by a queens scepter and is super stylish and sexy. The bold red coloring and gold trimming of the bottle give it a feeling of sophistication and elegance that you don’t find with many new fragrances these days.

Check out the awesome clip for Killer Queen.

RRP: 100ml $69, 50ml $49 and 30ml $39.

Monday Mani by Sportsgirl and Ulta3

I have had nude nails for a while. I picked off my last gel manicure and it has totally ruined my nails. They were horrible! It’s been a few months and they still aren’t great, but they are much better.
Miss 3 also loves nail polish (she calls it nalel poulish) she was given a scented on from Sportsgirl by a family friend (thanks Kate and Erin) and she can’t get enough of it. So that’s what we did. I also wanted to try out one of the new Ulta3 ones we were given. So with the 2 combined, this is what you get.

Ulta3 xoxo and Sportsgirl Jelly Bean

Jelly Bean scented when its dry

Please excuse my horrible nails and paint job!

My winter skin care

One of my pet hates is having dry skin. When winter shows its cold face I quickly change my skin care routine to cope with the change in the weather. I hate how the cold air makes my skin so dry, i can’t stand the feeling and I take an extra 10 minutes in the morning to get ready. (10 mins is a lot of time when you have 2 little ladies following you around and wanting to put lip balm on).

So here is my winter skincare regime;

20130826-073134.jpg

Sukin Hydrating Mist Toner, made in Australia it doesn’t contain any alcohol or parabens. I use it straight after cleansing right after the shower. Rosewater and chamomile help hydrate and sooth my skin before moisturiser.

Yes to Carrots rich moisture Day Cream, I love its thick, creamy texture and almost no smell. It contains organic carrots that give my skin a vitamin boost and sweet almond oil to help hydrate. Also paraben free and it is 98% natural. Great for cold weather.

Yes to Cucumber soothing Eye Gel, I hate cucumber! But I love the smell and I know it is good for your skin, thats why I picked this eye cream. As I get older my eyes are getting more and more sensitive, this one is perfect. Doesn’t bother me at all. I use it almost every day in the morning to help wake up my tired, up all night with babies, eyes. It absorbs really quickly too.

Burt’s Bees beeswax lip balm, one of my all time favourites. Its 100% natural and really soothes my dry lips. It also prevents them drying out on my freezing walk to the train station. (This one is also a big hit with my 3 year old, she never leave home without it.)

Vaseline total moisture for dry skin, I don’t usually buy Vaseline products but I got this one as a gift with purchase from Priceline and I love it. I use it all over my body after the shower. I keeps my skin nice and soft all through the day. It soaks in really fast too, which surprised me. I am still getting used to the smell, but a quick spray of perfume fixes that!

If I feel like it is an extra cold, dry kinda day, I leave everything to sink in for a few minutes then apply a BB cream. My favourite is the Garnier BB cream but I also use the Clarins BB skin perfecting cream. They also have SPF so win win!

Do you change your skincare for winter?

My wedding weigh in

Oh my goodness…. I have put on 4 kilos since getting my wedding dress!

As I typed those words I felt so disgusted with myself. I was so good with eating for so long and then winter hit and I lost all my motivation and control. Fiance and I recently booked our honeymoon and I need to get my act back before I head down the long walk to the scales on Biggest Loser! Hello, who wants to wear a bikini in Mexico and feel like an Elephant, um not me.

It must have been fate when on the day I was feeling my worst I opened up an email titled “Top Tips For Staying Fit This Winter”. Hello sign! The email made me motivated to keep moving even when I feel sluggish and can not be bothered. I am not good with cold weather so there is no way that I will go for a walk on a dark cold night when I get home from work. I even have a gym membership I bought with the intention of getting fit before the big day and I have only used it about once a week since. This makeup beauty needed a good stern hit with a powder brush, and I got it.

According to Health and Fitness expert Geoff Jowett there is no excuse to becoming a lazy bum during winter. Here is Geoff top 4 tips for staying motivated during the winter months;

1. Step out in your lunch break: Makes sense right? Why sit at your desk at lunch when you can take a nice stroll in the sun. Not only are you moving around but also getting a little vitamin D.

2. Get stuck into your winter casseroles: Such a great idea because you can pack them with veges and you also feel as though you are comfort eating. We recently bought a slow cooker and it is so amazing. You place everything in there before you go to work and wolah, its already for you when you get home.

3.  Get some moral support: It makes it so much easier when you have someone there to shake their head when you are about to eat something bad. That person for me is Amy, she motivates me to put down the fork and go for a walk or a run.

4. Always have snacks near by: My favorite point! I usually have some nuts, fruit and hummus at my desk during the day to graze on when I feel hungry. I was lucky enough to receive some Body Trim protein bars and cookies to keep me going throughout the day, honestly, they are delicious!

I now have absolutely no excuse to pile on any more kilos. I feel more motivated then I ever have and I’m ready to take on the events ahead.

Style your look with Batiste Cherry and WIN

Look what we styled!

For your chance to win a $1,000.00 wardrobe from Market HQ, head to the Batiste Australia Facebook page and style your own look.

Its super fun and a great way to show off your inner fashionista. I know we can defiantly do with a wardrobe update right about now. We decided to go with black and red for our color scheme as it goes with the cherry back ground we picked. This winter I am loving hats, bowler hats, fedora hats, you name it and I want to wear it.

You must know by now that The Makeup Case is a HUGE fan of Batiste. Whenever there is a new style design or fragrance we are the first ones to get in line and buy one.

At the moment we are loving the new Cherry fragrance and design, it is so stylish and retro. I always have a Batiste in my handbag and with this new design I cant stop looking in my bag! I just love the color of the can and the fragrance…oh the fragrance…its divine!! All the time I spray some on my locks I think of baking a cherry pie or eating a cherry ripe ( probably not so good with my upcoming nuptials in a few months).

Check out our previous post on Batiste HERE.

A little bit more hair inspiration

Becs wedding is getting closer and closer by the day. She thinks she pretty much has everything organised, which is great!!! But that doesn’t mean that I can look for more hairstyles for her big day. Here are a few that I love and because her hair is blonde that WILL look this good.
