Blend, blend, blend…..

Catching the train again after such a long break can be painful, but a must cause I need to go back to work. It doesnt help seeing all the other people looking fresh and ready when I need a second coffee just to make the train ride! But some things will never change. We have said it before, and we will say it again BLEND people!!!

The ladies may look good from the front, but turn a little to the side and there it is. That unblended foundation line along the jaw. Aahhh! It’s like a car accident, I just can’t look away! Ha.

Below is a bit of an exaggerated version of what I am talking about, but you get the idea.

We wrote about how much this line annoys us here  and the tools we use, so this doesnt happen here but basically apply your foundation then with a stippling brush or sponge, work the foundation down your neck and under your chin. Also don’t forget to soften the edges around your ears!  You should end up with smooth base that just blends in to match your skin colour. No lines!

End rant. Thanks for listening. Pass this on to anyone you think may benefit. hehehe!

Formal Makeup and Hair

Finally…….! I did this makeup and hairstyle for a year 10 formal back in December! and I have only just got around to showing you.

Disaster struck! The photos were on a camera I don’t usually use and when I tried to get them off the camera, something happened and they dissappeared. Vanished. Gone for good!

These are the only photos I have and were taken on my phone. So please excuse the bad lighting, blurring, and just the overall quality of the photos.

This is Nina. She wanted a messy low side bun with a braid across the top. I really loved the hairstyle and it was really easy to do. She wasn’t sure what she wanted on her face (because she doesn’t usually wear makeup) so we went for a not too dark smokey-ish eye and natural lips. She wore a pretty bright dress that was coral and silver, so it went well.

This photo does not do her justice, she was a complete knockout! She kept looking in the mirror and saying “it doesn’t look like me” She looked fabulous and I hope she had a great night.

PS it looks like her foundation wasn’t right but I promise you it was a perfect match. The light coming through the window was really harsh and I was using my phone to take the photos.

Wedding Prep – Clarisonic

So as you all probably all know, I recently got engaged. Apart from all the wedding planning, dress shopping and venue booking I have been trying to get my skin in order for the big day. The wedding is not until November but I figure why not start early!

I have wanted a Clarisonic for a while now but could not justify the hefty price tag until now. I told the fiance that we would save money in the long run because I wont need as many facials.

What wedding skin care prep have you guys done?

PS: Please like and subscribe to our YouTube channel. Apologies for the lack of makeup and messy room, fiance was making a suprise epic dinner and I was confined to one area of the apartment.

RRP $150.00 available from Myers and the Clarisonic website.

Yellow makes everything brighter…

My Mum tells a story about me when I was in kindy that goes a little something like this..

When I used to do paintings and drawing at school I used A LOT of yellow! It was my favorite color and I could not get enough of the stuff. When my Mum asked me one day why my drawings had so much yellow in them, apparently I came up with a pretty smart answer…Because when you have yellow in a drawing it makes everything brighter. Well done me! This is something that I still believe is true. Over the last few days I have been so sick with the most terrible flu, I had no voice and was coughing so much my ribs started aching. I was pretty down in the dumps and thought it would never go away, with nothing much else to do then feel sorry for myself I decided to paint my nails…YELLOW!

I tell you what, it really lifted my spirits not to mention the great conversation stater with complete strangers…”Soooooo, yellow nails? That’s pretty cool”, that was spoken by my Doctor. Other then lift your spirits, bright bold nails are perfect for this time of year, they go with the summer season and I love it.

The first yellow I grabbed was from Australis and called Acid Rain (I just love that name too bits).  The colour is so eye catching and bright, whenever I catch a glimpse of my nails I smile, which means it must be doing something right.

I applied 2 coats and because it is so high shine I didn’t need to apply a top coat. The application was so easy and just glides over your nails without creating any streaks. I wore this colour for about 2 days without any signs of chipping. Delish!

After day 2 I wanted to try something new but still keep within my yellow theme and lift my spirits. I went for another yellow Australis but this time a crackle version called Tweet Me (another awesome name). For the base colour underneath the crackle polish I used one coat of OPI That’s Hot. With the shatter polishes you need to make sure the colour you use underneath is completely dry before you apply the shatter colour or it wont work as well. You also only need to apply a thin coat of shatter polish for it to work and I find that it looks best without a top coat.

My shatter polish lasted about 4 days before it needed to be taken off. Shatter is great for adding a bit of fun into your outfit, Sunday arvo drinks with the girls or just hanging at the shops.

Check out the Australis website HERE for other cool polishes and products.

RRP: Brights from Australis are $7.95 for 10ml and Shatter polishes are $8.95 for 10ml. Both are available from Priceline, Big W and Kmart.

Our Wishes Came True!

It is nearly the end of the year! Again! This means we are all getting older but first we get to have Christmas. Yeah! Lots of eating, family, eating, presents, eating, drinking, eating, friends…. Anyway, we thought a little bit of an update was in order.

We wrote about what was happening for us in 2012 here. So…..how much has been crossed off that list? ALL OF IT! Ha yeah! pat yourself on the back Makeup Case.

This is what’s been going down in the world of The Makeup Case

  • Amy had her second baby. Her name is Evelyn (Evie) May and she was born in May.
  • Amy managed to sell her unit, after what felt like hundreds of open houses and 3 offers falling through, we managed to seal the deal and moved to greener pastures just down the road.
  • Bec’s holiday dream has come true, she went to Mexico and New York! There may be some other news she has to share but I will let her tell you.
  • Actually I’m not sure if Bec got the Tokidoki Barbie for her birthday but its coming around again, so if not there is always this birthday.
  • As you can see we continued blogging, we had our first birthday in July. We have done lots of makeup, tried and tested lots of products and been to a few events. It has been a good year.
Stay tuned for all our adventured coming in 2013.

One Bridesmaids Makeup

My sister was in Sydney to be a bridesmaid for one of her friends, last weekend. We don’t get to see her much, so I agreed to do her makeup for the wedding.

That saturday proved to be a busy one, but I squeezed her in. And I only did the makeup. It was just a simple smokey-ish eye with a little pink and natural /pink lips. (please excuse the kitchen, food, people in the background. There were heaps of people and we barely had space to move) They wore black dresses so and had pink flowers, so anything goes!

This is some of the products used.

  • Mac Select Tint spf15
  • Maybelline Falsies (read about it here)
  • Maybelline Gel Liner (read about it here)
  • Mac Barbie blush (palet and individual)
  • Clinique All About Lips (to keep lips all nice and your colour on)
  • Dior Illuminator
  • Dior Lash Maximiser (put it on before mascara)
  • Estee Lauder lip liner
  • Eyeshadow, mostly grey. Not sure what brand.

We wish for….a totally awesome makeup case!

We both use, and have always used, just a standard boring makeup case (I think I even got mine at Bunnings) Don’t get us wrong, they do their job and they do it well, but…..

Secretly we have been wishing for a totally awesome case with lights and wheels and all that stuff. A bit like these ones.

I don’t know if you can see it, but this one is pink alligator skin, my favourite!

We would settle for a black one though.

There is no real reason that we haven’t got one of these yet but they are harder to find in Australia. These ones were from Coco Martinelli there is heaps of makeup brushes, cases, makeup, jewellery cases and lots more. It is an American based website but I think they ship to Australia.
