Pop Colour Nails

I know the trend has probably passed, but when Bec cleaned out her nail polish collection and asked if I wanted any………stupid question…….I jumped at the offer. Heaps of different colours that I didn’t have already. I thought I would try a pop of colour, but which one? Couldn’t decide, so I
used all 4.

The colours I used; NYC Jelly Bean, Napoleon Perdis (cant read the colour), Rimmel Sunshine and Orly Lucky Duck.

The results. It was a bit tricky because they were all different brands so some took forever to dry and some were really quick. But I think it turned out pretty good.

I must say I am a bit of a fan of multi coloured nails. So keep an eye out for more to come.

Our Adventure to IMATS!

We trekked into the city early Saturday morning and after a bit of parking debacle we managed to get our hands on a hot coffee and some delicious turkish toast. We were now ready to take on the magical world of IMATS. (International Makeup Artist Trade Show)

Where to start? We wandered around looking at all the great products on offer, checked the timetables for the stages and stopped to have a quick look at the progress of the artists in the makeup awards.

Rae Morris was on the main stage so we took up position and listened (and learned) eagerly to all she had to say. She spoke about her experiences on being a makeup artist, some tips on how to get started and be successful and most important, some makeup tips to make your eyes look bigger. She also just launched a great brush range designed to make your application quick and easy with only few stroke blending.

Next up, Mac presents Body Art Trilogy with Nicole Thompson, senior artist and leader of the MAC pro body art team. Wow! These were amazing! The team created 3 different looks all disappearing into the background, inspired by graffiti, PVC and layered illustration.

The day finished up with keynote speaker Napoleon Perdis, speaking about his range, experiences and of course, himself!

Ahhhhh a great day with so much makeup and we learned so many great tips. Thanks IMATS!

Nothing better then a reminder on a Monday…

Don’t forget, the International Makeup Artist Trade Show (IMATS) is on this coming weekend, September 24th and 25th. The best thing about this event is that it is open to everyone, even if you are not a Makeup Artist you can come along and see all the new and amazing products and techniques you may not even know exsited.

The IMATS trade show is visiting six other cities around the world, we are so lucky one of them is Sydney (Sorry Melbournites). There are 11 keynote speakers at the Sydney event including Rae Morris and Napoleon Perdis, The Makeup Case are lucky enough to be invited to Napoleon Perdis keynote! Needless to say, we are excited and will fill you in on all the goss.

If you want to come on down to the trade show, it will be held at the Sydney Convention Centre Darling Harbour. Tickets are avaliable at the door for $45.00 for one day or $75.00 if you would like to attend both days. Remember to come and say ‘hi’ if you see two girls walking around looked dazed and amazed, it will most probably be us.

Have a look at the schedule before you go, just so you dont miss anything amazing. Let us know what you think of the show!

Hot Tip…Big lips without the Collagen!

Do you have a small top lip like yours truly? Well I think I have the solution to all our woes, and it doesn’t involve a trip to the local botox administrator for a jab or two. It is a much cheaper and less painful option then surgery, and looks a million times better.  In fact you can achieve the big upper lip we all crave from three makeup products you probably already have in your makeup kit; a lip pencil, red lip gloss and a gold eye shadow or shimmer. Can you see where I am going with this? If not or even if you are a smarty pants you should keep reading and see how this at home miracle is preformed.

At first we need a before shot so you can all witness the small lip in question.

First step is to outline your lips with a lip pencil, to make them bigger you can outline just above your natural lip. I always fill in my lips with the lip liner as well, it helps your lips stick or gloss stay longer and you always have a bit of colour in case you do not get a chance to re apply.

Next step is to apply your favorite red lip gloss over the top. You might remember in a previous post I spoke about my fav Napoleon Perdis St John lip gloss, I am flaunting it below just in case you may have forgotten (Oh for shame).

Now for the all important step, the one that is going to make us look like Angelina (apologizes, I am not entirely sure if that is a good comparison, think of your most desired lip and that is what we shall base it on.) Pat your index finger into your gold eye shadow or shimmer pot so you get a good amount on your finger. Now dab it over your lip gloss in the middle of your upper lip, make sure you do not go all the way along your lip as it will not achieve the look we are after. The gold should blend into the lip gloss and reflex off the light, making your lip look fuller and extremely kissable.

This is a little trick we have picked up along the way and have since discovered it is used quiet a lot on the runway!

RRP: Napoleon Perdis St John Lip gloss $22. Available from Napoleon Perdis concept stores.
