Talin’s Rose Charity Event

Last Sunday, July 1st, we were face painting! It’s not something we usually do but we were volunteering our time for a good cause.

You may or may not have heard about Talin’s Wish. He was recently featured on A Current Affair. 5 year old Talin’s Hawkins was diagnosed with a brain tumor by doctors around Easter this year. Unfortunately, the tumor was found to be a high grade, stage 4 Pontine Malignant Glioma in the brain stems. This is an aggressive form of tumor which is inoperable and life ending.

Daniel from Look to Sea and Mick from Surf for Sanity got together to raise money for Talin, and other kids and their families as they battle cancer. And Talin’s Rose Paddle for Life was born.

A 3km or 6km route starting and finishing in Rose Bay on whatever paddle powered vessel you wanted.

It was a chilly start to the morning on the water at Woollahra Sailing Club. But once the sun came up a crowd gathered to cheer on the paddlers, eat a delicious BBQ and home made treats and the kids had their face  painted and hair sprayed.

Here are some photos of our face painting!

Talin’s Rose is made possible through the Lynne King Cancer Care Foundation, which is a charity working to help those with cancer. The charity is registered with the Australian Taxation Department and all donations of AUD $2 or more are fully tax deductible.

Thanks to Erin and Maddie from The Makeup Technicians and Katrina from About Face Sydney for all their efforts face painting.

SUP….have you tried it?

Just a little something we have coming up that we thought we would let you know about. It isn’t makeup or beauty related but it is great exercise and it will make us get outside in the fresh air. So, in a couple of weeks, we will be having a lesson or 2 to learn how to stand up paddle.

You have probably seen it going on in Hawaii 5-0 (its is massively popular in Hawaii) and is pretty popular around the Gold Coast and Northern Beaches in NSW. We are going with the local school, Sutherland Shire Stand Up Paddle School, and the lessons will be on the nice calm (hopefully) Woronora River at Woronora. So stay tuned for our up and coming adventure on the river.

If you have already tried Stand up paddling and you think your ok at it, why not sign up and challenge yourself. The same guy that runs the school also is the president of Cronulla Sutherland Stand Up Paddle Club Inc, the local SUP club. They have a big race day coming up, The Naish River Race, on the 15th April (its a Sunday)

People come from all over to compete or just hang out for the day and learn a thing or two. It’s a family friendly event and you just might score some great prizes in their guessing competition.
